No matter where life takes you, staying grounded is the thing that’s always both the easiest and the hardest thing to achieve. We all remember our roots, where we came from, how we got to the point we are in life, but how often do we actually appreciate it and take the time to look back, assess, and re-align back into our proper selves. I say proper selves, because that’s who we are in our essence, without the embellishments of life’s ups and downs, our experiences, or our future. Ultimately, staying true to our core is as important as success itself.
Sofi Alurralde, our latest Cool Face of Bastet Noir, immediately caught our attention with her refined aesthetic and worldly demeanor. She is a journalist and columnist for papers such as La Nación, as well as editor for IRK Magazine and Marie Claire Argentina. In addition, she is a brand consultant and a full-time influencer, jet-setting all around the globe and sharing her experiences on her Instagram. Even though she’s a woman of many achievements, what impressed us the most was her humbleness and drive. If you’d like to get inspired, read a little bit more about Sofia and her story.
Who is Sofia Alurralde?
Sofia Alurralde is a girl who was born in a small city in northern Argentina, called Tucumán, and when she wanted to move in Buenos Aires for her studies in Communication her father took a globe and said “Sofi, you are a citizen of the world, live what you have to live. The world is yours”. And that meant a before and after in her life.
What’s your morning routine like?
I usually wake up and need a shower to wake up and start my day. Breakfast is the time I enjoy the most (cappuccino, fruits, bread and cereals almost always present), and at the same time I listen to a meditation to thank God for health and another new day of life.
Then of course I organize myself with emails, meetings that I have, events and all the whirlwind of activities that vary from day to day.
You are an avid fashionista traveling all over the globe for glamorous events and big-name brand collaborations. You have been an ambassador for brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Tresemme, and Swarovski, while also collaborating with Guerlain and Esteé Lauder. Tell us about the moment when you knew you had chosen the correct career path?
Honestly, when I started with Instagram about six years ago in Sweden (I lived there for a while), I never imagined everything that would come next. Brands that I admired from a very young age, people who read in magazines or watched on TV, were now so close to me that I needed someone to reassure me that it was happening. I think the most important thing is to value the small steps we take in our lives, visualize ourselves, but not obsess over goals that require us to lose what is really inside us.
You are a jack of many trades when it comes to your career: a journalist, a brand consultant, as well as an influencer. And although we are sure there are many, tell us a little bit about your proudest achievement yet?
My greatest achievement until today is when I meet people who tell me that I am always the same person no matter where I live or who I am with. Because that means that regardless of whether we feel proud of what we achieve, we always have our feet on the ground. I was at parties with celebrities like Rihanna, Leonardo Di Caprio, Gigi Hadid, and many others, it was fun, and at that moment perhaps I did not understand anything, but then they remained as beautiful memories and experiences to tell in the future.
Three things you wish you knew before starting out?
Perseverance is the key to everything.
Do not make a problem without first looking for solutions
Be punctual Sofia (I´m still working on that haha)
Biggest failure/setback in life, and what have you learned from it?
Every time we take a train (metaphorically talking ofc) we have to check well the direction where it is going, before getting on.
Books that changed your life
The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle
